MOBILE BASED CERTIFICATE II KITCHEN OPERATIONS COURSE FOR YEAR 9 STUDENTS

i-learn Australia has completed a project with a Melbourne private school, developing vocational training content for hand held devices. The project involved the writing and production of multi media for 5 accredited Units from the Certificate II Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) qualification.

The project was delivered on mobile devices (PDAs) and includes text, audio, site specific videos and images relating to equipment and practical skills to be used by the students.

The 200 Year 9 students undertaking the 2 week course at the school will have access to the devices and will be able to complete the mainly compliance Units on the PDAs in their own time. The project includes a comprehensive assessment which is to be completed by students on the devices and emailed to the course co-ordinator for correction.

The students can interact with the PDAs in any location and at any time as the devices do not require constant internet connection. The PDAS will deliver the theory based content and allow the coordinator to focus on teaching the practical applications of the course as the students will be preparing and selling food to their colleagues during the second week of the course.

The school has access to the i-learn Australia authoring tool and will be able to add content of any type for future training. This content will be automatically downloaded to the PDAs when synchronized.
